Better Than Chocolate (1999)

3 Stars (out of 4)

Candy Kisses

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Better Than Chocolate is an enjoyable, erotic, and funny character study. It gives us a 19 year-old lesbian (Karyn Dwyer) who finds her perfect soulmate (gorgeous Christina Cox) just days before her clueless mother and younger brother come to live with her following her mother's bitter divorce. The movie takes its time and honestly explores each of these characters, but it falters slightly when it tries to make political statements over issues like pornographic books and gay-bashers. The most memorable scene shows Dwyer and Cox covering each other's naked bodies with paint and rolling on giant sheets of paper. (Whew!)
