The Lady Eve (1941)

4 Stars (out of 4)

Snake in the Grass

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Preston Sturges' The Lady Eve is an all-time classic with sharp-witted conwoman Barbara Stanwyck giving the slightly baffled snake scientist HenryFonda a run for his money. As usual with Sturges, you wonder how he wasable to get away with so much innuendo during Hollywood's Hayes Codeperiod. The Criterion Collection's remastered DVD stands up among their best (itcontains lots of extras: a commentary track, an introduction by PeterBogdanovich, the Lux radio play, Edith Head's costume designs, andmore).
