Lulu in Hollywood, by Louise Brooks

Buy Lulu in Hollywood, by Louise Brooks
Brooks was one of the most luminous and vivid actresses in all of
cinema, even though she only played in two major movies: Pandora's Box
(1928) and Diary of a Lost Girl (1929). By breaking her contract to make
movies in Germany, she alienated the Hollywood system and made herself
an outcast and a cult legend forever. It turns out she was brilliant as
well as beautiful. This collection of Hollywood essays is insightful,
gossipy, and clever. Subjects include: Humphrey Bogart, W.C. Fields,
Greta Garbo, Lillian Gish, William Wellman, and her own period in
Germany with director G.W. Pabst, making her two most famous movies.
This book also includes a bunch of beautiful photos of Brooks, which are
part of her charm and mystery. (This review refers to the older,
out-of-print version of "Lulu in Hollywood." The book has since been
re-issued in an expanded edition.
