Eagle Shooting Heroes (1993)

By Jeffrey M. Anderson For some reason, Wong Kar-wai produced this comedy, a spoof of Louis Cha's novel, at the same time he was directing a serious version, Ashes of Time (1994). Much of the same all-star cast appears in both films. Directed by Jeff Lau, Eagle Shooting Heroes has a lot of great looking action, but it moves awfully fast and the comedy and acting is very, very broad; it rarely takes a breath. It's not for a casual fan, but die-hards will enjoy seeing this amazing cast goofing it up. Kino released the film on a good, U.S. DVD in 2008, with production stills and a trailer.
