In the Line of Fire (1993)
Dodging a Bullet
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Buy In the Line of Fire on DVD
Clint Eastwood plays Frank Horrigan, an aging Secret Service agent who blames himself for not being able to save the life of JFK. While working for the current president, he investigates threats from a psycho (John Malkovich), causing him to relive his old anxieties. Rene Russo co-stars as a lady agent who catches Frank's eye. Though it often feels like an Eastwood movie, Wolfgang Petersen is the credited director, deftly balancing suspense, action and luxurious character development. For once, the villain is actually given equal weight. It's an uncommonly exciting, intelligent movie, and one of the best summer movies ever made. The real-life Senator Fred Dalton Thompson co-stars as the White House Chief of Staff. Ennio Morricone provided the score.
