Amblin' Gamblers
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Director Robert Aldrich apparently disliked this film, a comic Western with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin as dueling cowboys looking for a stake in a riverboat casino. Eventually they join forces against a greater evil. Aldrich's trademark violence bursts through only sporadically; otherwise the film comes across as a lazy, party-time effort for the stars. Charles Bronson is effective as a killer cowboy, and hotties Anita Ekberg and Ursula Andress do their job for the camera. The comedy is almost totally inept, and not even the aging Three Stooges can save the film with their small parts. The film's biggest crime is that it's way too long. W.R. Burnett apparently worked on the screenplay without credit.
