Palpable Hit
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Keeping the Hong Kong action movie alive, directors Johnny To (The Heroic Trio and The Mission) and Wai Ka-fai team up for this tale of dueling hitmen, each vying for the top spot in the business. The first is a subtle planner named "O" (Takashi Sorimachi) and the second is a flashy showoff (Andy Lau) who's obsessed with old movies (he references El Mariachi and Le Samourai, among others). To confuse matters, they both become involved with the same girl (Kelly Lin). The movie contains many dazzling action sequences, but most effective is a hit inside a prison cell involving a cluster of hand grenades.
