Merry Fairy Tales
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Jeanne Moreau appears and begins to spin the tale of the "real" Cinderella, as opposed to the fake one from fairy tales. What results is a delightful movie, full of feisty, three-dimensional characters romping through comedy, romance and otherwise gloriously colorful moments. Danielle De Barbarac (Drew Barrymore) gets stuck living with her dad's selfish second wife (Angelica Huston) and her two nasty daughters. She meets a handsome prince (Dougray Scott) without knowing who he is, nor does she care; she's not impressed. He, on the other hand, believes she's something she's not. It's a fairly rudimentary movie romance, but writer/director Andy Tennant and co-writers Susannah Grant and Rick Parks handle it with such glee that it's contagious.
