Gene Blues
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Andrew Niccol's Gattaca is one of my favorite sci-fi films of recent years. Ethan Hawke plays a natural born human trying to get by in a world run by genetically-tweaked humans who are considered superior. He employs the help of Jude Law, a "superior" human who has lost the use of his legs, to get tissue samples for the frequent tests he must undergo. Uma Thurman co-stars as Hawke's dangerous love interest. This superb widescreen film (with its many huge, empty shots) looks beautiful on its new DVD, and the package contains deleted scenes but lacks a director commentary track.
