Singin' Through the Pain
By Jeffrey M. Anderson This is a very entertaining true story about the real-life singing group, The Comedian Harmonists. Although this German movie, directed by Joseph Vilsmaier, contains most of the show-biz movie cliches, it does have one twist; half of the group is Jewish, and they're living in Germany in the 1930's. The Comedian Harmonists become world-famous, and the Nazis find themselves in a tough spot. The movie uses original recordings by the real group and you can tell why they are still popular in Germany today. Miramax shortened the title and edited out 11 minutes for the American release.
