Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1990)
String Along
By Jeffrey M. Anderson The gorgeous and sexy Victoria Abril stars as an actress (in a strawberry blonde wig) who gets kidnapped by a newly-released mental patient (Antonio Banderas) after wrapping her latest film. This is probably Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's most notorious film, being the only one so far to receive the deadly NC-17 rating in the United States (though his later Kika was far more disturbing). Banderas manages to make his randy psychotic seem touching and gentle, going to such lengths as to buy softer tape to bind Abril's mouth. Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! is one of those movies that makes you laugh if you sit back and absorb the entire absurd situation at once. When the couple finally has sex in a very steamy and very noisy scene, you may want to shut your windows so your neighbors don't hear. DVD Details: Anchor Bay Entertainment's DVD provides a lovely, luminous widescreen transfer and a theatrical trailer, but no other extras.
