Apple Lore
By Jeffrey M. Anderson In the classic, black-and-white Lady for a Day (1933, Image Entertainment, $24.99), director Frank Capra spreads his usual feel-good schmaltz over the otherwise springy material. The story follows a homeless apple seller (May Robson) who must disguise herself as a rich lady to impress her visiting daughter. Damon Runyon wrote the original story. The film was nominated for four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Writing.
