Jerry Get Your Gun
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Though Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts top the bill, it's Tony Soprano himself, James Gandolfini, who steals the film. Jerry Welbach (Pitt) must retrieve an antique pistol from south of the border, while Winston Baldry (Gandolfini) holds Samantha Barzel (Roberts) hostage, using her as bait to acquire the firearm. Directed by Gore Verbinski, the movie juggles a hilarious oddball tone with its dusty locales and road-weary characters, holding back just enough to pique our interest and affection. Only in the last 20 to 30 minutes does it lose faith in us and runs itself into the ground. But for 90 minutes it soars.
