Crane Shots
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Greg Kinnear turns in a brilliant performance as Bob Crane, the 1960s TV star best known for "Hogan's Heroes." Offscreen, Crane had a sex obsession problem, enabled by his best friend and video nut John Carpenter (Willem Dafoe). Director Paul Schrader perfectly balances the mixture as a hilarious satire, a serious look at obsession and deviancy, and a respectful portrayal of a less-than-perfect human being. Columbia/TriStar's disc is just about perfection, with three commentary tracks, deleted scenes, excellent animated menus, and lots of other stuff.
