Hit and 'Bliss'
By Jeffrey M. Anderson A superb second feature from up-and-coming Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, otherwise known as "Joe." Whereas his first film Mysterious Object at Noon was a model of no-budget, black-and-white filmmaking, Blissfully Yours explodes with color and luxury as a teenage girl becomes involved with a Burmese immigrant with a skin condition. The first half of the movie is pure set-up, then the credits run (!), and then the second half takes place entirely in the woods on a bizarre and life-altering picnic.
