Three Portraits
By Jeffrey M. Anderson
Arthur Miller's daughter Rebecca proves that good genes do get passed on. She takes three of her previously published short stories and turns them into this passionate and engaging film about three women facing painful life changes. Kyra Sedgwick leaves her abusive husband, Parker Posey has an affair with a powerful writer on the eve of her marriage and Fairuza Balk picks up a battered kid while running away from her city life. The three tales never intersect, but the three women feel like kindred spirits nonetheless, as if each were watching over the other two. Cinematographer Ellen Kuras does beautiful work with digital video.
