Tickle & 'Prime'
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Buy Posters at AllPosters.com With its silly sitcom conceit, Ben Younger's Prime starts off at a disadvantage. Uma Thurman plays Rafi, a recently divorced New York career woman who falls for a much younger man, a talented painter (Bryan Greenberg). Unfortunately, he happens to be the son of Rafi's shrink (Meryl Streep), a controlling Jewish mother who disapproves of marriage outside their faith. Yet Younger (Boiler Room) unexpectedly explores authentic problems behind the match, not just the obvious ones, and delivers some big laughs. Streep gives a truly spectacular comic performance -- her best since Adaptation -- and even the rookie Greenberg holds his own against the two veterans. Moreover, Younger shows enough guts to advance toward a proper, logical ending without ruining the movie's warm flow.
