Bomb Swelter

Anderson Buy Posters at AllPosters.com  Telling the story of a Pakistani-born suicide bomber, Hassan (Ayad Akhtar), in New York, The War Within nervously reduces its characters to symbols and its plot to contrivances. Contrary to the title, Hassan never appears to experience any kind of inner war; he's made up his mind from the start. In fact, none of the characters change in the slightest except when the plot calls for it; nothing moves organically. Director and co-writer Joseph Castelo manages to coax some good performances, but the film is too timid to really grapple with its intense subject matter and too unpleasant to draw much attention.
