Anderson It's 1960 and the American-born Laura Quinn (Demi Moore) holds an unprecedented position at the all-male London Diamond Corporation, even if she keeps getting passed over for promotion. Janitor Mr. Hobbs (Michael Caine) makes her a proposition; he can sneak into the vault if she'll get him the combination. The plan is to smuggle out diamonds in his Thermos, but the next morning the vault is completely empty! The film gets far too preachy when characters explain their motivations (a present-day wraparound sequence is particularly horrible), but for the most part the Oscar-nominated director Michael Radford (Il Postino, The Merchant of Venice) turns in a hushed, marble-polished heist film with a genuine sense of tension and mystery. Joss Ackland and Lambert Wilson co-star.
