The Hottie and the Nottie (2008)
Paris - When it Fizzles
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Paris Hilton's latest attempt as a thespian strikes an odd balance between offensive and harmless, heartless and heartwarming. She plays Cristabel, who remains close friends with her first-grade classmate, the "nottie," June (Christine Lakin). Another old classmate, Nate (Joel David Moore, from Art School Confidential), decides to fulfill his destiny and win Cristabel, but must first befriend June. Johann Urb plays the uninspired villain, a male model/dentist who fixes June's face, but with an ulterior motive. The comedy is routine and the outcome is obvious but somehow the film grows gradually and unexpectedly less annoying; now instead of ranking as an unforgettable turkey, it's merely forgettable. The Greg Wilson plays "the best friend." Tom Putnam directs, from a screenplay by Heidi Ferrer.
