Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008)
Eye to Eye Tunes
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Here's a John Hughes-type movie for the new millennium; if I were a teen, it would be my new favorite movie. Sweet and inconsequential, it intelligently captures the faux-confident way that teens talk and joke with one another. On a night out in New York, fate throws together the recently jilted Nick (Michael Cera), a straight boy who plays guitar in an otherwise all-gay band, and Norah (Kat Dennings), the daughter of a famous recording guru. They, along with various other misfits, search for a missing, drunken friend (Ari Graynor) as well as the location of a secret gig by their favorite band, Where's Fluffy? Director Peter Sollett transforms the city into a visual wonderland of possibilities and bizarre occurrences. It's too bad that, in a movie about music lovers, the soundtrack couldn't have been more exciting.
