Personal Howl
By Jeffrey M. Anderson
Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart (The Secret of Kells) direct this ravishingly beautiful animated tale that, unfortunately, feels a wee bit uninspired in the story department. It tells the tale of a hunter's daughter, Robyn Goodfellowe (voiced by Honor Kneafsey), who meets the strange Mebh (Eva Whittaker). The latter's spirit becomes a wolf while she sleeps. Thus follows an array of secrets and rescues and battles, all of which feel a little too familiar, and are presented with just a bit too much seriousness. But the film is nonetheless worth seeing for its amazing hand-drawn animation work, capturing a truly lush, organic feel for the patterns of nature.
