Slink Like a Mouse

This sweet, 30-minute short film from Aardman Animations is less sly and funny than some of the studio's legendary shorts (the Wallace & Gromit series, Creature Comforts, etc.), but it has a gentle charm, and its Christmastime backdrops make it a nice December watch. A robin's egg tumbles out of its nest, and the baby bird (voiced by Bronte Carmichael) is raised a family of mice. (She shapes her feathers into two tufts on her head, resembling mouse ears.) Yet, try as she may to become a stealthy thief, looking for crumbs of food, she's just too clumsy. After encountering a magpie (voiced by Richard E. Grant), she decides to go off on her own to steal a whole sandwich. The stop-motion animation is pretty without being showy. Gillian Anderson provides the sinister, cooing voice of a cat.
