The Curse of Bridge Hollow (2022)

3 Stars (out of 4)

Spell Bent

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

This sweet, silly, tween-friendly Halloween movie has a lot of the expected broad humor and slapstick, but it has a strong center with Marlon Wayans as the science-teacher dad who doesn't like Halloween and doesn't believe in the supernatural, and his cunning, more open-minded daughter, Sydney (Priah Ferguson, Erica from Stranger Things). Their family, which includes Sydney's mother Emily (Kelly Rowland), moves from the big city to Bridge Hollow. Sydney discovers a lantern in their house belonging to the legendary Stingy Jack. The lantern casts some kind of spell that brings all the Halloween decorations, including clowns, zombies, and a giant spider, to life. The spell must be broken by midnight, of course. Anyone who loves Halloween will adore the look of the movie, packed to the seams with fun horror stuff. The movie's biggest flaw is the dumb running joke that Emily wants to be a vegan chef, but her cooking is terrible.
