Stellan Skarsgård plays celebrated film director Gustav Borg, who after the death of his ex-wife, descends up on his Oslo family home where his grown daughters, actress Nora (Renate Reinsve) and historian Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas), live, disrupting their lives. Their relationships are, to put it politely, are complicated. Gustav asks Nora to be in his next film, and she flatly refuses, so he turns to American star Rachel Kemp (Elle Fanning). Well-acted, and astutely co-written and directed by Joachim Trier, I nonetheless found the film to be a tad conventional — less patient or observant than his Oslo, August 31st — although certainly admirable.
