A family-friendly movie with talking animals did not look like the best use of one's time, but The Sheep Detectives is almost at once effortlessly charming and immensely satisfying. Hugh Jackman (in human form) plays kindhearted shepherd George Hardy, who likes to read murder mysteries to his flock at the end of the day. When George himself is murdered, his animals, led by sheep Lily (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), put their heads together to solve the crime. An incredible array of talent came together to voice the animals, but the humans aren't bad either, especially Nicholas Braun as a bumbling local cop who manages to keep his role humanized.
MGM and Alliance's Blu-ray release is bare-bones, offering only several audio tracks (Dolby Atmos English, Dolby TrueHD 7.1 English, English Descriptive, French, French Canadian, and Spanish) and several subtitle options (English, English SDH, French, and Spanish).
