Towering Romance
By Jeffrey M. Anderson With a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy (The Full Monty), and supporting actor nominees Pete Postlethwaite (for In the Name of the Father) and Rachel Griffiths (for Hilary and Jackie) in the lead roles, we've got the makings of a terrific romance. Postlethwaite plays a painter who gets hired to paint a series of electrical towers. Griffiths is a rock climber and a drifter (another female drifter!) who proves herself worthy of a job, and finds herself falling for the older man. Unfortunately, first time director Sam Miller drenches the whole thing with excessive helicopter shots, swirling crane shots, and thundering music, ruining the whole experience.
