Dance of a Lifetime
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Carlos Saura's Tango is one of the current Academy Award nominees for Best Foreign Language Film. Miguel Angel Sola stars as a film director who attempts to make the ultimate tango movie. To some degree, he succeeds. Most of the dancing scenes -- photographed in beautiful colors by Vittorio Storaro (Dick Tracy) -- are accomplished and passionate. Other scenes are cliched and dull, such as the usual "controversial" scene that the backers want cut out. The heartbreakingly lovely Mia Maestro (Evita) also stars.
