Hot Blonde
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Joshua Logan's Bus Stop marked a dramatic departure for Marilyn Monroe. She broadens her acting chops in the role of singer Cherie who meets a pushy and irrepressible cowboy (Don Murray), in town for the rodeo. It's disturbing to watch Murray stalking and tormenting her, but everything works out in the end. Logan's impressive Cinemascope work captures the pathos of the story rather than just the furniture and landscapes as other early, less imaginative widescreen movies did. Bus Stop was a favorite of Jean-Luc Godard and the other French New Wave film critics in the 1950s. Murray received an Oscar nomination for his performance.
