'Cat' Scratch Fever
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Director Paul Schrader ignored the no-gore rules of the 1942 original, a masterpiece directed by Jacques Tourneur, for his 1982 remake. Nastassja Kinski plays the beautiful, gracefully erotic woman who can't make love without turning into a cat and causing carnage. Her brother Malcolm McDowell is the only one she can be with. Schrader emphasizes the bold reds in his color scheme; the new DVD is probably the best way to see this underrated film.
