Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)
Coffee's for Closers
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Buy Glengarry Glen Ross on DVD. This brilliant, gutsy film features a nervy script by David Mamet and career-topping performances by Jack Lemmon, Al Pacino, Alan Arkin, Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey, Jonathan Pryce and Alec Baldwin. The men play real estate salesmen on the verge of losing their jobs and forced to contend with outdated leads. When a snazzy new batch of leads turns up, some of the men consider breaking in and robbing the office to save their own hides. Mamet and the underrated director James Foley (At Close Range, After Dark, My Sweet) opened up Mamet's play and turned it into an extraordinary cinematic experience using bold colors, rain and a powerful use of space within the widescreen frame. DVD Details: Artisan's spectacular new 2-disc DVD set features both widescreen and pan-and-scan versions (the latter is definitely not recommended in this case), a commentary track, a clip from the Charlie Rose show, a tribute to Lemmon, scene-specific actor commentary, a short documentary on salesmen and more.
