Pearl Harbor Redux
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Another look at Pearl Harbor, Otto Preminger-style. Wayne stars as a tough Navy captain called "Rock," who survives the December 7, 1941 attack. The movie follows several plot lines, jumping back and forth between Kirk Douglas, Patricia Neal, Burgess Meredith, Paula Prentiss, Henry Fonda (playing a noble admiral), and Brandon De Wilde as Wayne's long-lost son. Preminger's black-and-white Cinemascope frame looks great on this new DVD, though the pacing becomes rather slack from time to time. The DVD comes with a making-of documentary.
