Charlie's Angles
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Hitch's own personal favorite of all his films stars Joseph Cotten as mysterious Uncle Charlie who comes to stay with his favorite niece, also named Charlie (Teresa Wright). Meanwhile, mysterious a string of murders has been committed. The idea of terror invading a small town seems quaint today, but Hitchcock builds suspense effortlessly throughout, using intricate details as well as the location's overall mood. Playwright Thornton Wilder (Our Town) co-wrote the screenplay and receives a heartfelt thanks in the credits. The movie received a single Oscar nomination, for Best Story (Gordon McDonell).
