The Slumber Party Massacre (1982)

3 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

Drill Bits

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

One of the best, smartest, and funniest slasher movies of its time, The Slumber Party Massacre was written by feminist author Rita Mae Brown and directed by woman, Amy Holden Jones, who had been an editor on Martin Scorsese and Joe Dante movies. It's taut, lean, sexy, and gory and gets right to the point, with the killer — lugging a phallic power drill — attacks the girls' basketball team (and a few male party crashers) at the title party. Legendary scream queen Brinke Stevens (at the height of her cuteness) has a nude scene and is an early murder victim.
