The Film Crew: Killers from Space (2007)
Eye Noon
By Jeffrey M. Anderson The second DVD release from The Film Crew (Bill Corbett, Michael J. Nelson and Kevin Murphy) fares much better than their first, Hollywood After Dark. Their latest target, W. Lee Wilder's horrible film Killers from Space (1954), is quite a bit more fun. Peter Graves stars as a pilot who is abducted by aliens (with big eyes cut from ping pong ball halves) and told about a plan to take over the earth. Will anyone believe him? Will anyone care? The guys take the film -- complete with its awful, jarring close-ups -- to task with their comments. As always, if they manage to strike that first chord, they have the ability to keep viewers off balance and giggling constantly. Once again the introduction and interludes are not nearly as funny as the commentary itself, but fortunately, viewers can skip through it fairly easily. One quibble: purists might have enjoyed the option to watch Killers from Space on its own, without the commentary track. But then again, maybe not.
