Unicorny
By Jeffrey M. Anderson I first saw this full-fledged fantasy film from director Ridley Scott oncable, but I couldn't really remember it. Now I know why. It'sridiculously self-important and serious and never truly invites theviewer in to its spectacularly beautiful world (and it is gorgeous). TomCruise plays some kind of baby-faced mythical being who must travel intoworlds unknown to save the broken horn of a unicorn. This 2-discLegend: Ultimate Edition (1986, Universal, $24.98) set offersScott's 113-minute director's cut with Jerry Goldsmith's original scorerestored, as well as the 90-minute theatrical release version with theTangerine Dream score. I actually prefer the latter, as the datedsynthesizer score makes the movie a little less somber and more fun. Thebeautiful, letterboxed two-disc set comes with a (rather dull) Scottcommentary track and tons of other extras for fans.
