MC5: Kick Out the Jams (2005)
Smoked Jams
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Today, the MC5 (short for the "Motor City Five") may seem like a one-hitwonder band, or a footnote in the history of punk. But in Detroit in thelate 1960s and early 1970s, they were a reason for living. Music VideoDistributors presents this 35-minute DVD collecting a mish-mash of liveperformances by this band and shown in a variety of psychedelic swirls.Their biggest and greatest song, "Kick Out the Jams," is here, completewith its infamous and controversial opening wail: "Kick out the jams, motherfucker!" Other songs include "Looking at You," "Ramblin' Rose," "IWant You Right Now," "Come Together" and "Motor City Is Burning." DVD Details: The disc comes with two audio mixes, 2.0 and 5.1, but both are of varying quality. As an extra, the disc includes a 2003 interview by band manager/beatnik poet John Sinclair, and Brian J. Bowe (editor of CREEM magazine) provides liner notes.
