Miles from Home Movies
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Jan Sikl created this eight-episode TV mini-series, collected from home movies, photographs and other materials, shot over the course of the 20th century in Czechoslovakia. Children, relatives and descendants of the original subjects narrate each hour-long episode, and through the course of the series, we get a pretty good picture of politics, economy, war and other social conditions over the years. It's an interesting idea, but I did not find it as dynamic or as moving in practice as it is in theory. Facets released it on a two-DVD set in 2009.
