Maternal Instinct
By Jeffrey M. Anderson John Waters' latest comedy may not be as sick as some of his hard core fans demand, but it's plenty sick compared to some of the mainstream fluff that played alongside it in multiplexes. Kathleen Turner should win an Oscar for her demented Mom role; yet another of her great twisted characters, (Prizzi's Honor, The War of the Roses). Sam Waterston is wonderfully bewildered as Dad. The all-girl grunge band L7 appears at the movie's climax as Camel Lips, and there are a few delicious clips from Hershel Gordon Lewis' Blood Feast. Ricki Lake, Mink Stole, Patty Hearst and Traci Lords show up as well. DVD Details: The DVD comes with a John Waters commentary track and a trailer.
