Scooby-Doo! 13 Spooky Tales: Surf's Up Scooby-Doo! (2015)
Nothing But Nets
By Jeffrey M. Anderson
Scooby-Doo! 13 Spooky Tales: Surf's Up Scooby-Doo! is a new 2-disc collection featuring a brand-new cartoon, Scooby-Doo! and the Beach Beastie, and 12 older cartoons, all with a somewhat "seaside" connection. The new short is lots of fun, with Fred trying to tame his obsession with nets, and with one of the series' all-time great lines: "Why does it always have to be the one thing I'm afraid of? Scary things!" The rest of the collection is a wide-ranging mish-mash, with a couple of classic Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episodes, and an episode of What's New, Scooby-Doo?. There's a newer episode of Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get A Clue!, which my son and I didn't particularly care for, plus an episode from the annoying A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, and then the rest appear to be "Scrappy-Doo" episodes from various other shows, the quality of which seems considerably less from the original shows. The retail price of $20 is a bit much to ask for this collection, but if you can find it cheaper, and you're a big fan, it's worth a look.
