Undisputed (2002)

3 Stars (out of 4)

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

This rock-hard, streamlined "B" movie pits prison boxing champ Monroe Hutchen (Wesley Snipes) against the legitimate heavyweight champ 'Iceman' Chambers (Ving Rhames) when he's convicted of a rape charge. When the warden shies away from the proposed fight of the century, aged, imprisoned boxing enthusiast 'Mendy' Ripstein (Peter Falk) gets the ball rolling. Veteran genre director Walter Hill (The Warriors, Streets of Fire) accomplishes something new by building up the villain as a rich, fully-rounded character and stripping the hero down to a mysterious Clint Eastwood-like cipher. A real adrenaline blast.

DVD Details: A seriously underrated gem, Undisputed is definitely worth a look on the new DVD, which contains "conversations" with Snipes and Rhames and trailers.
