Cracker & Camper Van Beethoven: The First Annual Camp Out Live (2006)
One Fine Day
By Jeffrey M. Anderson  MVDvisual released this concert DVD, shot in 2005 at the First Annual Camp Out at Pappy and Harriet's Pioneertown Palace in the California desert. David Lowery and the various members of his 1980s band Camper Van Beethoven and his 1990s band Cracker assembled to play, along with various other incarnations of these same bands (including the Monks of Doom). The DVD runs over two hours, but gives viewers the option to select individual performers and songs. My favorites "Take the Skinheads Bowling" and "Low" are here, and the audio is excellent, but the concert footage is only average. It consists of a simple multi-camera setup and a director dissolving between shots throughout the show. The disc includes bonus "Porchstock" footage, a loose improvised jam shot after the show in half darkness from one camera angle.
