Iraq 'Em Up
By Jeffrey M. Anderson I avoided this film during its first go-around because I'd already seen more Iraq documentaries than I ever thought I could stand. But Charles Ferguson's film may be the best, and the final word on the subject. Ferguson intelligently interviews many people who worked directly with the White House in the preparation and aftermath of the Iraq war. Many of them were experts whose well-informed recommendations and warnings were routinely ignored, labeled as "guesswork." The interviewees also express their dismay at the wrongheaded choices that were actually made, and trace early, relatively minor failures to the source of the problems today. Ferguson informs us that he attempted to interview the top officials of the Bush Administration -- hopefully for some perspective -- but was turned down. Campbell Scott's dramatic narration helps the two-hour running time slide by. Alex Gibney, the director of Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, executive produced.
