No Patients
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Co-directors Piraphan Laoyont and Thodsapol Siriwiwat have good taste in girls. If nothing else, their new Thai horror film is peopled with outrageously cute actresses, each photographed for maximum appeal. Unfortunately, that's about where it stops. From there, Sick Nurses is a jumble of half-formed ideas and half-executed results. A handsome, popular doctor makes money on the side by selling corpses to a mysterious source, and his adoring nurses are in on it. When one of their number threatens to tell, she becomes the next victim. But when they're forced to keep her on ice for seven days, she returns from the dead to wreak her vengeance. It's difficult, if not impossible to tell time and space in the film, even though things appear to be taking place in one night. Is the ghost attacking several girls at once, or one at a time? Is it starting one job and returning to finish later? Who knows? There's no one else around in the hospital, not even any other patients, and the nurses behave as if they're at home, exercising, trying on makeup, etc. Even the ghost is right out of other horror films, the girl with the stringy hair and only one eye showing. It's a waste of easy-on-the-eyes talent. DVD Details: The DVD from Magnolia comes with a making-of featurette.
