Comeback Id
By Jeffrey M. Anderson
Part of the "Welcome to the Blumhouse" four-film series on Amazon Prime, Elan Dassani and Rajeev Dassani's Evil Eye benefits from appealing performances by Sarita Choudhury (Lady in the Water) and Sunita Mani (GLOW) as mother and daughter, and from a non-white cast, but its straightforward narrative isn't terribly surprising. It really only has one place to go, and, sure enough, it goes there. Mani plays Pallavi, whose mother Usha tries to fix her up with nice Indian boys. When one date shows up late, she instead meets the rich, handsome Sandeep (Omar Maskati), and they instantly hit it off. But Usha doesn't like it, and things get worse when she begins to think that Sandeep is the reincarnation of a man who tried to kill her many years ago. The film looks great, and it doesn't overstay its welcome, but I wish it had packed a bit more of a wallop.
