Director Gigi Saul Guerrero — who previously helmed Culture Shock (2019), one of the best entries in Amazon Prime's "Into the Dark" series — returns with this "Welcome to the Blumhouse" film; it's perhaps less relevant, but it's also more gruesome fun. In a dying barrio called Oak Springs, which is quickly being gentrified by hipsters, a group of older folks find their only real escape at the bingo hall. One night, a new bingo hall suddenly appears, run by the sinister Mr. Big (Richard Brake), whose dirty, stretchy smile is shaped like two fishhooks. Players at this new parlor win big money, but also find themselves descending into hideous nightmares (lit by sickening pinks and greens), and, finally, death. The plucky Lupita (a wonderful Adriana Barraza), who knows everyone in the neighborhood, leads the charge to get their bingo back. L. Scott Caldwell plays her best friend Dolores, and Joshua Caleb Johnson is Dolores's grandson Caleb, a troubled teen with an absent mother.
