Kidding Around

In this early exploration of body manipulations by David Cronenberg, murderous, unearthly children appear to be the work an evil psychologist (Oliver Reed). Samantha Eggar stars as a woman who places herself in the doctor's care, neglecting her daughter and husband (Art Hindle). It's uncannily perceptive for a so-called exploitation horror movie, digging right to the center of the human love/horror reaction to our offspring. This is one of the great filmmaker's best early films, and a stylistic -- if not budgetary -- breakthrough. MGM/UA's DVD comes only with a trailer, but the price certainly won't break the bank.
