Gone Buggy
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Great news for families: the UCLA Film Archive has restored Max and Dave Fleischer's much-neglected classic animated feature film Hoppity Goes to Town (a.k.a. Mr. Bug Goes to Town). The second and last feature cartoon from the Fleischers (the first was Gulliver's Travels), this is a stunningly beautiful and moving tale of good and evil bugs in New York City looking for a place to live. Hoagy Carmichael co-wrote the jazzy songs. In 2008, the film was released on DVD under a third title, Bugville.
