Piano Man
By Jeffrey M. Anderson  Somehow, the Brut perfume/cologne company financed this amazingcharacter study starring Harvey Keitel. Keitel plays a concert pianistwho also works as a tough guy for his gangster father (Michael V.Gazzo). As he prepares for his big audition, he gets involved with agirl (Tisa Farrow), who in turn is involved with a violent pimp (JimBrown). Toback, who makes his directorial debut here, eschews plottwists in favor of simply following Keitel around for a few days,observing his behavior, his obsessions, his desires and fears. It's astunning piece of work.
DVD Details: Toback provides a commentary track, and the disc comes with a short featurette interviewing both Toback and Keitel today.
