Speedy at School
By Jeffrey M. Anderson
Considered one of Harold Lloyd's masterpieces, after Safety Last and The Kid Brother, The Freshman (1925) sends Harold off to college, where he tries to win the heart of Peggy (Jobyna Ralston). He thinks he's become popular by emulating his favorite movie character, but instead he's the school "boob." (He does a silly little dance any time he meets someone.) Highlights include the party scene in which Harold wears a not-quite-completed suit and the exciting, climactic football game. In 1990, it was selected for the Library of Congress's National Film Registry, and it holds up extremely well today.
